Our Mission
Voice Range Test was created to make vocal range testing accessible to everyone. Whether you are a professional singer preparing for an audition, a choir member trying to understand your voice part, a vocal coach looking for a teaching tool, or simply a curious voice, our tools help you understand your instrument better — for free, with no registration required.
We believe that understanding your voice should not require expensive equipment, specialized software, or registration on a platform. All of our tools run directly in your browser using advanced Web Audio API technology. Nothing is uploaded to any server — your voice stays private on your device.
The Technology Behind Our Tools
Autocorrelation Pitch Detection
Our core technology uses autocorrelation analysis, which compares a sound signal with a delayed copy of itself to identify the fundamental frequency. This approach is accurate to within a few cents and works reliably even in non-ideal environments.
Web Audio API
All audio capture and processing uses the browser-native Web Audio API. This means no plugins, no downloads, and no server communication. The entire analysis pipeline runs locally on your device.
Privacy by Design
We never record, store, or transmit any audio. The pitch detection happens entirely in your browser's memory. When you close the page, all audio data is gone. This is a fundamental design choice, not an afterthought.
Real-Time Processing
Our pitch detector analyzes your voice 60 times per second, providing real-time visual feedback through a pitch curve graph. You see exactly which notes you are hitting as you sing them.
Scientific Pitch Notation
All results use Scientific Pitch Notation (SPN), the standard system used in music education and acoustics worldwide. Middle C is C4, and octaves are numbered sequentially.
Responsive Design
All our tools are fully responsive and work on phones, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers. The interface adapts to your screen size while maintaining full functionality.

Why We Built This
Most voice range testing tools are either expensive professional software, require registration on a platform that collects your data, or are unreliable browser toys. We wanted to create something different: a professional-grade vocal range test that is genuinely free, respects your privacy completely, and works on any device without downloads or sign-ups.
As singers, voice teachers, and choir directors ourselves, we understand what matters in a vocal assessment tool. We built this to solve our own needs and decided to share it with the world. Our goal is simple: help every singer understand their instrument better, regardless of budget, location, or technical ability.
Our Editorial Process
We take accuracy seriously. Our content is created and reviewed by musicians, vocal coaches, and audio engineers who bring years of practical experience to every article and tool.
Singer Range Data
Each singer’s documented range is compiled from multiple authoritative sources including studio recordings, live performances, published vocal analyses, and musicological research. We cross-reference data from The Range Planet, peer-reviewed vocal science literature, and verified recording sessions. Ranges reflect documented notes, not theoretical extremes.
Educational Content
Our voice type guides, octave explanations, and training advice draw on established vocal pedagogy from sources including the Journal of Voice (Elsevier), the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), and standard conservatory curriculum. Every claim about vocal technique is grounded in peer-reviewed methodology.
Review & Updates
Content is regularly reviewed for accuracy. Singer range data is updated when new documented evidence emerges. Educational content is revised to reflect current best practices in vocal pedagogy. Readers are encouraged to report corrections through our contact page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Voice Range Test really free?
Yes, all of our tools are completely free to use. There are no premium features, no paid tiers, and no hidden costs. We built this tool because we believe understanding your voice should be accessible to everyone, regardless of budget.
How accurate is the pitch detection?
Our autocorrelation-based pitch detection is accurate to within a few cents (100ths of a semitone) under good conditions. Accuracy depends on microphone quality, background noise, and how steadily you hold each note. For best results, test in a quiet room and hold notes for at least 1-2 seconds.
Do you store or share my voice data?
Never. All audio processing happens locally in your browser using the Web Audio API. No audio is ever recorded, uploaded, or stored on any server. Your voice stays private on your device at all times. This is a core design principle, not just a privacy policy statement.
What devices and browsers are supported?
Voice Range Test works on any modern browser that supports the Web Audio API and microphone access: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and most mobile browsers. It works on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. The interface is fully responsive and adapts to all screen sizes.
